New generation of LED boards – Planar Net Case Study
History 2016-2024
In 2016, we launched the first LED board in the Planar series - the Planar Board. It was a single board with dimensions of 500 x 19.5 x 7.4 mm, a power output of 6W and a luminous flux of 525 lm, giving an efficiency of 95 lm/W. With a luminous angle of 170 degrees and the ability to cut every 8.33 mm (every single lens), the Planar Board found its way into tiles, frames and stretch ceilings from 4 to 20 cm deep.
In the first quarter of 2019, based on the positive market reception, we introduced Planar Net. The new product differed from its predecessor in design - instead of a single strip, it offered a bundle of 10 boards, each 956 mm long. The reduction in width to 17.5 mm and height to 7 mm and the ability to cut every 80 mm (one lens) sped up installation, making it more intuitive. The power of a single strip was 6W and the luminous flux was 560 lm, giving an efficiency of 93 lm/W. Planar Net was ideal for tile and stretch ceilings with a depth of 6 to 15 cm.
In the fourth quarter of 2019, we updated Planar Net, increasing the wattage to 6.5W and the luminous flux to 600 lm, resulting in an efficacy of 92 lm/W.
In 2021, responding to the needs of customers realising large lightboxes and frames, we expanded the range with two new products: Planar Ceiling and Planar Net 3W. Planar Ceiling is a bundle of 10 boards with a length of 840 mm, a power of 3W and a luminous flux of 300 lm, with an efficacy of 100 lm/W. With the ability to cut every 2x260 mm + 1x320 mm (every two lenses) and a lighting angle of 170 degrees, this product was dedicated to lighboxes, frames and stretch ceilings with a depth of 10 to 20 cm.
Planar Net 3W is a bundle of 10 boards with a length of 956 mm, a power of 3W and a luminous flux of 260 lm, with an efficacy of 87 lm/W. The ability to cut every 80 mm (one lens) and the 170-degree beam angle made this product ideal for lightboxes, frames and stretch ceilings between 3.5 and 10 cm deep.
In 2022, due to declining interest in single boards, we withdrew the Planar Board from the market, replacing it with the Planar Board RGB model. The new product filled a niche in the market, offering the possibility to change colours thanks to RGB technology. With a length of 956 mm, a power output of 14.4W and a lighting angle of 170 degrees, the strip was dedicated to light boxes and frames with a depth of 6 to 15 cm.
In the second quarter of 2024, we presented the Planar Net CCT, a version with variable colour temperature. Depending on the connection via a controller (range 2700-6500K) or directly to the power supply of both colours at the same time, the product offered different power and luminous flux parameters: typically 3W and 486 lm/unit, with a maximum of 6W and 975 lm/unit. Planar Net CCT was dedicated to lightboxes, frames and stretch ceilings from 6 cm in depth.
The new generation
The new generation of Planar Net is another step forward in LED lighting technology. Compared to the previous version, we have significantly increased the luminous efficacy - it now reaches at least 173 lm/W instead of the previous 93 lm/W. This means that the same level of brightness is achieved with significantly lower energy consumption. In practice, this translates into lower operating costs for the end user and the possibility of using weaker power supplies, which reduces the production cost of the finished illuminated ad.
In addition, we have modified the optics technology - the new lens provides a wider light angle of 178 degrees, compared to 170 degrees in the previous version. As a result, the light is more evenly dispersed, eliminating the spotlight effect and allowing even better illumination of advertising surfaces.
The Planar Net family includes models to suit different needs:
- Planar Net 2W - ideal for smaller lightboxes and more delicate applications where precision and minimal energy consumption are key.
- Planar Net 4W - a versatile solution providing an excellent balance between power and efficiency, recommended for medium-sized installations.
- Planar Net 7W - the most powerful variant, designed for large coffers and demanding applications where lighting intensity matters.
Planar Net also saves time - the ability to cut every 2 lenses provides greater flexibility to suit different panel and frame sizes. Installation is faster, simpler and requires no additional soldering or joining of modules.
With the new generation of Planar Net, your advertising will become brighter, more energy-efficient and cost-effective - both at the production stage and in daily use.
